If you haven’t heard, Yoenis Cespedes is a free agent. For Mets fans who know anything about the history of how this franchise is run, this should scare the hell out of you.
Hopefully, the Mets will find a way to re-sign Cespedes this Winter, and get the team back together and whole for a run in 2017. The first step in that process is to extend the qualifying offer to him, and see if he accepts it.

No, I don’t expect him to accept it, and he shouldn’t. He will test out his value on the market and see what he’s worth to other teams, which will probably be a lot. Hopefully, the Mets match whatever any other team offers and more.
2nd basemen Neil Walker is also a free agent, and needs to be retained at almost all costs. The Mets extended their qualifying offer to Walker as well.
The offer is worth $17.2 million for both players.
